Wise Men Came To Jesus

Now when the wise men came to Jerusalem they went to see Herod the King, they asked him a question which startled him, where is he that is born King of the Jews.  We have seen his star in east and are come to worship him.  Herod was troubled and he knew nothing of the birth of Christ.  New we see the wise men starting out, suddenly they looked up and saw the same bright star moving towards Bethlehem.  Now for years the religious leaders had been looking forward to the birth of the Messiah.  They knew from scripture that he would be born of a virgin and he would be born in Bethlehem.  You would think that they would be eagerly examining every birth in Bethlehem and following up the slightest rumour that the Saviour had been born but this was not so.  A few strangers from a foreign land were the ones to rejoice at his birth.  We read that he came to his own and his own received him not.  This scripture was literally fulfilled.  We learn here that men can have scripture in their head but no grace in their hearts.

Today many people know the truth as it is revealed in the Bible but they never respond to this truth and they will go to outer darkness with their heads full of scripture.  We see here also the reward of the faithful.  These wise men travelled many miles to find Jesus.  It would be wonderful if men today were just as eager.  The wise men bowed down and worshipped Jesus and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.  We see here that giving is a vital part of worship.  No man truly worships God who refuses to give him that which is due to him.  After the wise men had ended their visit to Jesus, God warned them not to return to Herod so they went back into their own country another way.  Isn’t it true that after men have met Jesus, they go another way.  They no longer walk the low ways of sin, they walk the pathways with Christ - pathways which lead to higher and better life.   When Jesus was born, an angel cam down to speak to a group of poor shepherds and said, unto you is born this day in the City of David, a Saviour which is Christ the Lord.  You will find him lying in a manger.  The shepherds went to the town and found the  baby Jesus in the stable so the poor shepherds and the wise men came to Jesus.  Yes, my dear friends, wise men are still coming to Jesus.  Are you coming to the Lord?                                       B Moore
