Sayulita Surfing In Sayulita Life
Following many delays we have made the trip to Sayulita, Mexico. Sayulita surfing is known everywhere. This fame is not for grand crashing waves and extended rides, but rather the persistently gratifying surf that break left and right and welcome even novice surfers – such as us – for a sweet day in the Pacific.
Frankly, the grand crashing waves make me nervous. I have surfed since the Nineties but living in Montreal I do not get many chances without extensive travel, so my surfing skill set is limited. We’ve visited some great beaches in California and along the coast, but several Americans had raved about surfing on the western coast of Mexico. Recently we had been noticing fellow Canadians and even a couple European acquaintances talk {particularly|expressly|specifically about the way the river transforms the surf in Sayulita.
The surf break is thoroughly exceptional. I mean, it is plenty strong to make the ride exciting, but not so fierce as to intimidate you – most of the time anyway. Occasionally the swells can get higher than eight feet and the waves get a bit gnarly for my taste. The locals can absolutely get after it when the swells are big and I learned there have been several surf champions who grew up in Sayulita.
A word about surfing here – it is welcoming to beginning surfers, suggesting there are usually lots of, well, beginning surfers. Try to be tolerant as many people are just learning the sport and its intricacies. Fortunately, the locals are patient and have low-cost board rentals and coaching for newbies. Surfing in Sayulita is prime between December and April. However, the ocean can be filled with people during those months since the chillier seasons are prime Mexico getaway times.
Since I got onto Mexico vacations – they are just another reason we love Sayulita. After a brisk morning of surfing there is tons of stuff to see and do within a short distance. Puerto Vallarta is only twenty miles away and that town is crazy fun. We had a blast till way past midnight at The Zoo in PV. They have great golf courses and tours, too. All over the state of Nayarit there are little tour outfitters that will transport you into the jungles or onto a boat heading down the river or out in the bay. We always enjoyed it when we could just meander along the coast and experience the Pacific vistas and mango groves.
Sayulita is a truly charming spot. Sayulita surfing is so cool, and the food and hotels are so cheap we considering a move further south to be closer to our new favorite place.
