We can spend more time doing the things we are paid to do, and less stuck in traffic jams. Put these ideas to your boss, but before you do try to put together a compelling case so he finds it hard to refuse you have everything you need at home, good home office space, separation from family, fast and reliable broadband. Install a separate telephone line so you can answer in the name of your business. Your boss may use this to check up on you!
Your boss might worry that if he permits you to work from home you may not be doing your job at all times. Try to find ways you can reassure him on this. Suggest a trial period and show your productivity improve.
